Description
Santi and Tuğçe are here to weave new myths for our times in a language that most directly touches the human heart: music. Their newest full-length album “The Marvelous Real” finds this adventurous duo in their most majestic musical moment to date. Fully scored and orchestrated by Santi and co-written and co-produced with Tuğçe, “The Marvelous Real” explores the spaces between the real and the imaginary. It tells stories across time and imagination: not only narrating “what is”, but more urgently, provoking the radical imagination of “what might be”. The Marvelous Real” is a bold and ambitious undertaking that highlights the liminality and hybridity characteristic of both the duo’s music and their personal stories. As two artist-scientist-wanderers, one from Turkey and the other from Paraguay, who first crossed paths fifteen years ago as students in the USA and who now make a living as “professional dreamers” in Germany, Santi & Tuğçe feel strangely at home in the in-between spaces. Boundaries and borders, in music or in life at large, do not represent limits or divisions, Instead, they serve as points of contact from which new possibilities emerge. With The Marvelous Real, Santi & Tuğçe once again reinvent themselves. Even more thoroughly than in their previous releases, the soundscape of “The Marvelous Real” bridges the many musical and cultural worlds they inhabit: electronic music, Western classical music, and jazz, enriched with melodic and rhythmic ideas from Latin America, Anatolia, the Balkans, and beyond. Each track on this album is fully composed and orchestrated, and comes alive with an international crew of virtuoso instrumentalists (piano, harp, guitars, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French horn, percussions) from Italy, Germany, Turkey, Paraguay and France, along with original lyrics and vocals in Santi & Tuğçe’s two primary languages: Spanish and Turkish. This album is a labor of love, a journey of wonder and wonderment, that seeks to articulate the elemental truths of being: what it means to love, what it means to be mortal, what it means to live with our fragilities and our frissons - to remind us who and what we are.
